This newspaper account published by the Boston Gazette shows the patriot's anger from the devastating deaths of the Boston Massacre. A rumor that a British Sergeant had been murdered by the townsmen was spread. However, a few days later, the same sergeant had been found unharmed. The British had been known to threaten the colonists with false rumors, leading to the theory that this attack was planned. The British initiated the attacks— one of two soldiers struck one of the townsmen which infuriated nearby colonists. With the death of their fellow colonists, many went to the council chamber and demanded justice for the victims. Thus, a council meeting was held to submit to a resolution for the aftermath of the conflict. The final verdict of the meeting persecuted Captain Preston, who ordered the troops to shoot, and his fellow soldiers involved in the massacre.

As a Patriot, Paul Revere possessed biased views on what happened during the Boston Massacre and portrayed the British as the perpetrators. Paul Revere’s engraving, The Bloody Massacre, was used as propaganda in newspapers to enrage anti-British colonists over the British troops’ occupation of Boston. In the engraving, the colonists are unarmed and it seems as if they were innocently being murdered by the British soldiers. The aggression portrayed by the British soldiers ultimately brought America closer than ever to the Revolutionary War.
